![]() If you take an old useless one apart you will see what I mean. Also wiping down the outer surfaces with a dryer anti-cling sheet can remove any residual static that may have built up that is preventing the magnetic disk from spinning up to speed since it could be clinging to to the outer plastic surfaces or the inner slip sheet that covers the magnetic disk. The internal type are pretty easy to access if you want to see if you can clean it or very slightly lubricate the tracks and I mean very slight, like some silicone spray sprayed into the cans cap and the q-tip touched to the liquid.Ĭlick to expand. To completely wipe the surface of the inner magnetic disk I would wave a very strong magnet across the front and back surfaces (like one of those big round magnets from the back of an old speaker, not a weak refrigerator magnet). Is the drive internal or an external usb type? The track 0 error could mean that the hardware's read write head cannot reach the 0 track area. New drives if you can find them are pretty cheap. I have had brand new floppy disks that failed to be written to and have also had some success getting disks that fail to work either by wiping them with a strong magnet on the outside or by wiping them down with a dryer static cling sheet to remove static or a combination of both. You can have two kinds of issues here either the drive is not functioning correctly in which case it would probably not read or write any disk, or the floppy disk your trying to write to is no good. ![]() ![]() I suppose you mean format disk not drive as the drive is hardware and not format-able like a disk is. ![]()
